Call for summer field travel applications: Apply by July 30 for travel that will take place before September 1, 2008!
Would you like to visit another state to see the field work that is being done in Vegetable or Strawberry IPM? Do you wish you had funds to get to a twilight meeting, field day, or spend a few days with a colleague in another state in the Northeast or another region? The Northeast Vegetable IPM Working Group, funded by the Northeastern IPM Center, offers an Educator Exchange Program that will pay up to $800 for qualified expenses to help agricultural professionals in the Northeast learn about and share integrated pest management practices in vegetables and strawberries.
The application process is simple. Write an application letter and state your work or job, how your travel will help you learn about IPM and how you will share what you learn with growers back at home. Funds are available for agriculture professionals in the private sector as well as those who work for public universities. EPA Region 1 Pesticide Program is seeking applications from eligible organizations that will facilitate the implementation of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). The program supports efforts to reduce the exposure to toxic pesticides through the adoption of production agriculture pest management practices that transition away from the use of high-risk pesticides in minor crops.
The in-field adoption by farmers of already identified potential low-risk integrated crop or pest management tools and strategies is a priority. The project or projects selected for funding will work towards achieving the adoption of reduced-risk alternatives and /or ecologically-based IPM or biologically integrated farming approaches that are economical.
For this competition, the EPA Region 1 SAI Program has approximately $110,000 available for assistance awards under this Request for Applications (RFA).

Biopesticide Research Program |

The IR-4 Biopesticide Research Program announces a request for grant proposals for funding of efficacy research in 2009. IR-4 is especially interested in proposals containing biopesticides as resistance management tools, rotated with conventional products. While resistance management is an important interest, the proposal must still have a majority focus on biopesticides. Project proposals will be accepted in Early, Advanced and Demonstration stage categories. The total amount of funding available will be around $ 400,000. Most successful grants have generally ranged from $10,000 to $25,000. The primary objective of the IR-4 Biopesticide Research Program is to further the development and registration of biopesticides for use in pest management systems for specialty crops or for minor uses on major crops.

The Partnership Grant is for agricultural professionals who work directly with farmers--specifically Cooperative Extension, NRCS personnel, non-governmental organizations, and others operating in the farm community--who are interested in developing on-farm demonstration, research, or marketing projects related to sustainable agriculture. Sustainable agriculture is understood to be agriculture that is profitable, environmentally sound, and beneficial to the community.

OFRF will fund the development of educational opportunities and materials that are:
1.Pertinent to organic agricultural production or marketing; and
2. Aimed at organic producers and/or those considering making the transition to organic certification.
OFRF will also accept proposals to fund activities that promote information sharing among organic agricultural researchers and organic farmers and ranchers.
