Overview: Community IPM

Community IPM entails a wide range of IPM settings. One defining characteristic is that all are settings that are not directly related to production of a commodity. Community IPM instead applies to settings where maintenance of our environment are of particular concern. Thus, the following settings all are classed as part of the community IPM portfolio:

  • Homes: lawns, gardens (see also "vegetable", "fruit", "ornamental", etc.), structures, indoor plants
  • School IPM: landscape, school buildings, teaching IPM
  • Turf: lawns, parks and playing fields, golf Home and grounds
  • Forestry and urban forestry
  • Public health IPM (e.g. insect-vectored diseases like West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease; rat management) has its own section on our site, but is often also included under the community IPM heading

In this Center, the Community IPM Working Group holds primary responsibility for activities pertaining to community IPM.

For more information about community IPM programs in your state, find the state IPM Coordinator and other pertinent offices in the "State IPM Links" navigation bar at the bottom of this page.

To find resources pertaining to community IPM, select items in the submenu under "Community" in the top navigation bar, or use the advanced search function.

Please let us know how we can make this page more useful for you. If you have a resource to add, or a request, send an email. Thank you.
